| Long time poet David Fujino says he wants his poems to be out front, not himself as actor. Poetry is written.
David’s poetry falls, intentionally or not, into the broad category of postmodern Language poetry. Wordplay and allusion’s the thing. What we hear, what we think, what we see, what we feel, becomes the poetry very well.
David reads well. His trumpet playing, the poems and Will’s drums create a whole, unique work of the moment where the spaces are as essential as the words. His reading, the rhythm, the variation of volume and pitch open the poems to the listener.
Poems of sound, images, the abstract and the concrete, the imagined, the lived and felt, Japanese Canadian experience, modern city, future city? bio-fueled buses, is it jazz?

David Fujino is a poet and actor. His poetry has been published in Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Australia and Japan. A selection of nine poems appears in the Spring 2004 issue of West Coast Line. In 2004, David played uncle Mas in the Mitch Miyagawa play, The Plum Tree, for The Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver and for Concrete Theatre in Edmonton. David’s selected film credits are Tokyo Breakfast, 3 Stories, and Time Warrior. On the small screen, he recently played Ha Kim on the tv series, Zoe Busiek: Wild Card. In Spring 2005 in Vancouver, he will be rehearsing a workshop production of the Daphne Marlatt Noh play, "The Gull".
